Aslockton Cranmers 3 – 0 AC Wollaton
Aslockton were soon into their stride and created the first opportunity that saw Oliver Warner fire just over from a good position but they were back just a few minutes later when Nico Devivo’s deftly flighted free-kick was narrowly missed by Pierce Hallam with only the ‘keeper to beat.
The Wollaton ‘keeper was twice tested, mid-way through the half, as he was at full stretch to punch away Hallam’s dangerous corner and then went full length to divert Dom Williams long range free kick around the post.
With all this pressure, the inevitable occurred after thirty two minutes, when Pierce Hallam steered home Matt James’ accurate cross to give Aslockton the lead, which was deservedly doubled two minutes later, as the dangerous Dom Williams fired through from an acute angle.
Wollaton were pleased to go in at the break to try and re-establish themselves after a half that had seen them constantly back-pedalling but they emerged for the second period with more composure but fifteen minutes in they found themselves three goals adrift and a man light, as custodian, John Frost was dismissed, after charging out of his area and tripping the on-rushing Williams both parties needing lengthy treatment for the incurred injuries.
Ryan Robinson took over in goal for Wollaton and although he made a valiant effort to claw away, Williams’ curling free kick, the ball lodged into the top corner.
At this point, Wollaton through caution to the wind and it almost paid dividends, as Rob England raced through and placed his shot beyond the advancing Joe Fryer, only to see Devivo clear from in front of goal. They were certainly seeing more of the ball but were restricted to shooting from range by a resolute defence and this kamikaze approach almost cost them again, with Lewis Bonham racing clear to fire his effort against the post and into Robinson’s grateful grasp.
The awards were presented by presented by Notts FA Life Member Mr Ray Valentine, supported by County Association Director Mr Peter Adams, with Dom Williams of Aslockton Cranmers being Man of the Match and James Hallam lifting the Saturday Minor Trophy on behalf of the deserving winners.
