Today I was invited to Watermead Park in Leicestershire to photograph two members of the Windsurfing and SUP Club (yes one of those members is my dad!)
Having never photographed any form of water sport previously, it took some time to work out where the best positions to locate myself around the lake was due to the windy weather conditions. It took a little time, but the results have come out beautifully.
I can honestly say it was something I enjoyed, and would definitely like to do again in the future.
Leicester Windsurfing and SUP Club are a friendly club offering an affordable and safe windsurfing and stand up paddle boarding experience suitable for beginner, intermediate and experienced members.
They have regular Club Sundays planned from the beginning of April through to the end of October and members do meet on a Thursday evening during the summer months subject to weather conditions. Club Days provide the opportunity for members to have fun on the lake, work on their techniques or indeed participate in some friendly competition. The lake is well suited to Stand Up Paddle Board and/or Long Board Windsurf Racing.
Many of the members take a picnic to the lake throughout the summer months and enjoy a good day with the family by the lake. Providing the opportunity for younger family members to have fun on the water and if they wish to try out windsurfing or stand up paddle boarding at their own pace.
There is always practical help on hand from club members. Access to the lake is during daylight hours 365 days per year. Although it is always recommended that you take a second person with you either on the lake or on the lakeside to watch out for your safety.
The Club Cabin has changing facilities including a change area and toilet/wash hand-basin although things have changed slightly since the outbreak of the coronavirus.
The club also has an excellent range of both windsurfing and stand up paddle boarding equipment available to members and ideal for both beginners and intermediate users. They currently do not offer formal lessons. However, if anyone with appropriate instructor qualifications recognised by the RYTA is interested please contact them directly: firstname.lastname@example.org
